Catholic Life and Fundraising
At St Walburga’s, the teaching and practice of the Catholic faith lies at the heart of all we do in school – it is the basis of our school ethos and curriculum.
We want our children to achieve well, to become well rounded, caring individuals with a sense of social justice, who are constantly striving to be the best they can be. We see every member of our school family as a unique individual, created in the image and likeness of God. We want our children to know that they are loved and chosen by God to do His work in the world.
We strive to live by our school motto and like our Patron, St. Walburga, by ‘Putting Others First’. This can be seen, heard and felt in the welcome all receive at our school - whether that be their first visit or in their daily experience.
Fundraising and Charity
Our Faith Leaders / Minnie Vinnies regularly organise and participate in fundraising events supporting The Good Shepherd Appeal for Catholic Care, local food banks and our trust Charity - the Friars of St. Pio. These events include harvest food collections, bun sales, Lenten stalls and non-uniform days, to name but a few.
The children also support the local community with seasonal cards, flowers, singing in care homes and hosting pensioners tea parties.
Sacramental Preparation
We are delighted to support our children and families through their journeys of faith in the preparation for first sacraments. Children from the wider parish are also welcomed to join us. Parish catechists join school staff in facilitation and delivering the different programmes, for which we use the Diocese of Leeds materials.
Children are prepared for first sacraments in the following year groups:
- Reconciliation - Year 3
- First Eucharist (Holy Communion) - Year 4
- Confirmation - Year 6
